Recommended Reading
I would like to share with you some of my favorite books, the ones that feed my soul and imagination and no child should grow up without reading. Many of these books are available at your local library, but are well worth owning in order to peruse over and over again through the years and read to your children.
Alcott, Louisa May Little Women
Bunn, T. Davis The Messenger
Burnett, Frances Hodgson The Little Princess and The Secret Garden
Doyle, Sir Arthur Conan The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
Lewis, Clives Staples The Chronicles of Narnia
MacDonald, George (one of my favorite authors, many books including the following)
“Alec Forbes of Howglen”
At the Back of the North Wind
“The Fisherman’s Lady” and “The Marquis’ Daughter”
“The Highlander’s Last Song”
“The Princess and the Goblins” and “The Princess and Curdie”
Montgomery, Lucy Maud Anne of Green Gables and the rest of the “Anne” series
Orzcy, Baroness The Scarlet Pimpernel
Phillips, Michael Legend of the Celtic Stone
Rawling, Marjorie Kinnan The Yearling
Wilder, Laura Ingalls The Little House… series
And these are some of my favorite reads more appropriate for older teens and ladies and gentlemen, either because the reading level may be too difficult or the subject matter may not be appropriate for very young children.
Bronte, Charlotte Jane Eyre
Caldwell, Taylor Romance of Atlantis
Leroux, Gaston The Phantom of the Opera
McKillip, Patricia A.
The Tower at Stony Wood
Riddle-Master, The Complete Trilogy
Rivers, Francine
The Atonement Child
The Scarlet Thread
Stoker, Bram Dracula
